Dating shouldn’t just happen before you’re married…

We’re celebrating the 12 days between Robert and my birthdays.
On the second day
between birthdays
my true love gave to me…
SOUP!
As part of our 12 Dates in 12 Days DARE we’re going to become connoisseurs of soup!
Day 2 included another bowl of clam chowder – the broth based style – and a bowl of creamy navy bean soup at a local sandwich stop called Boondini’s. All their soups are home-made goodness. The clam chowder was hearty and tasty with big chunks of potato, veggies and lots of pieces of clam. I really liked it (so did Robert), but the navy bean soup was a bit bland for me. Rob liked the navy bean soup and finished every bit.
On the wall by our table was a map of the Caribbean – we had fun identifying all the islands we’d like to visit… the consensus was that Tobago would be an awesome place to enjoy some sun and quiet! (gotta day-dream, huh?)
Date #2 – A bit of home improvement.
We’re loosely following the list of date ideas from a post on the Happy Wives Club. Our date #2 was about improving our home… so we decided to improve it by clearing out some stuff!
There have been photos/paintings packed away since we first moved into this house 8 years ago – we went through and sorted into what we would keep, and those we no longer wanted. There were some mixed emotions revisiting these treasures – lots of good memories, but also the realization that we have moved on. Time keeps moving forward. One of the paintings was our very first purchase – even before we were married… We’ve decided to pare down – let someone else enjoy what doesn’t fit us anymore.
As another part of the clearing process, Robert tackled our filing cabinet – and then we drove to the recycling/shredding plant to get all the old documents out of the house. The recycling plant is really cool. We felt like we were on a field trip – learning something new! (One of our differentiating values as a couple is Discovery – we love learning something new!)
Our Date #3 is going to the Library – and of course, another bowl of soup! Stay tuned…

I don’t know all the islands there are…so can I opt in to a vacation that stops at each of them. Then I could decide which one I liked best after that?! 🙂 I am sure others would agree with me!
Something I learned from my parents: don’t get rid of any of your spouses things without them okaying it first! This shows respect to them and their belongings.
So much fun–your 12 dates. I love the way you are enjoying each other in simple dates. My husband and I spent a football Saturday watching our college team on TV while we sorted though files and papers that needed to be discarded. Fortunately our team was doing very well so we actually got through some of the pile. We had pizza and I bought my husband’s favorite beer for him (it is a special occasion when he has a beer).
We hopelessly need to tackle our basement. As for Caribbean islands, I’ve always wanted to go to Puerto Rico , but out of curiosity, I took a quiz over at Fodor’s and found out that apparently Martinique should be my top island destination.
