How do you feel about resolutions for a new year?

Some people coach the concept of new year resolutions as goal setting. But, as important as goals are – in your personal or professional life – how successful have you been meeting those goals, or resolutions? I have to confess, that the more complex the goals or resolutions, the less of a chance I have of seeing success. What’s been your experience?

Simple is Good

To handle the lack of success with complex goals (or resolutions), I’ve embraced a simple solution:

One Word

Have you heard of OneWord 365?

It’s a simple concept – choose one word to focus on for 2015.

That’s it.

One Word.

Doesn’t seem hard, does it?

When I spoke with my children, they had their “one word”.

Robert has his “one word”.

It’s taken me a little longer to decide… but this is it.

This is my “one word” for 2015:

Praise One Word

My focus for 2015 is to PRAISE – to praise God.

… praise Him for the new

… praise Him for the good

… praise Him for the not-so-good

… praise Him for what I’m learning (the hard way, or not)

… praise Him for what I lack

… praise Him for what I receive

… praise Him for those people I’m missing

… praise Him for the new people I’m meeting

… praise Him for everything!

It’s just one word – but it’ll keep me focused!

What does this have to do with encouraging your spouse?

When you and your spouse know what the other wants to focus on, it’s easier to encourage each other. And a one-word focus is even more simple.

Are you aware of what your spouse wants to focus on in 2015? Does your spouse know your focus?

How about you?

Have you heard of the “one word” concept?  What’s your “one word” for 2015?
